D. SCOTT KELLY, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

scottD. Scott Kelly, Executive Director and co-founder of BASES, is a native of Charlevoix and graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1982. He attended Ferris State University where he also played baseball for four years. Two days after his first year of college, Scott voluntarily checked himself into an alcoholism treatment program at age 18. When he finished college at Ferris three years later, he earned a bachelor's degree in social work, graduated with honors, and was named Male Athlete of the Year in 1986 and Conference Baseball Player of the Year. He has worked as a substance abuse counselor in a long-term residential program, a prevention specialist and a student assistance coordinator.

In organizing BASES, Scott combined his passions of substance abuse counseling and baseball to come up with the name in hopes of filling the gaps in services for young people. Scott completed his master's degree in counseling at Central Michigan University in 1997. He is a certified relapse prevention specialist, a certified advanced addictions counselor and has been clean and sober since 1984. Scott and his wife, Celia, and their three children live in Charlevoix.

CELIA PARTIDA, PROGRAM DIRECTOR

celiaCelia Partida, Program Director and co-founder of BASES, is the facilitator for the Sunday parent education and support group as well as a case manager for the Recovery High program. Celia began her career in the substance abuse field doing prevention programs with Head Start in 1988. She then accepted a position as a Prevention Specialist and later became the Prevention Coordinator for a four county area.

Celia's passion to assist young people led her to the creation of BASES where she has designed and implemented numerous training programs with local students, teachers and community members. Celia's reputation as an energetic and enthusiastic trainer drew the attention of Hazelden, international leader in substance abuse treatment and education, where she shares her skills and expertise on a national level as a trainer.

Celia has an associate's degree from North Central Michigan College and a bachelor's degree from Thomas Edison College. She is a certified addictions counselor and has been involved in her own recovery from addiction since 1986. Celia lives in Charlevoix with her husband, Scott, and their three children.

TORY WERTH, PREVENTION SPECIALIST

toryTory Werth, Prevention Specialist, has been an employee of BASES since January of 1999. Tory's work at BASES includes serving as a case manager for the Recovery High program and other various needs. Previous to being hired at BASES, Tory was working at Munson Medical Center's alcohol and drug treatment program. Tory has been working with young people who have alcohol and drug problems in the local area since 1995. He was also a volunteer Peer Helper at BASES in 1997 and 1998.

Tory has been clean and sober since 1994 and in 1995, he was selected as Regional Teen of the Year by Probate Courts in northern Michigan. Tory and his wife, Melanie, live in Petoskey with their son. Clean and sober since seventeen years old, Tory is a great role model for young people.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Kraag Lieberman, Board President, is an attorney in Charlevoix and former Prosecutor for Charlevoix County. He is a member of the Community Reformed Church in Charlevoix and volunteers for the Performing Arts program at Charlevoix High School. He and his wife, Cindy, live in Charlevoix and have two children.

Chuck Adams, Board Vice President, and his wife, Mary, have been residents of Charlevoix since 1994. He retired in 1995 after 25 years in residential mortgage banking. Chuck was owner and CEO of a company which served Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.

Debbie Neidhamer, Board Secretary, is employed as a Home Economics Teacher at Boyne City High School. She has been teaching for over 20 years. She is a class advisor and is involved with the National Honor Society and Boyne City High School's Human Assistance Program. Debbie has been involved with BASES since 1996. She and her husband, Tom, live in Boyne City with their three teenage daughters.

Ike Boss, Board Treasurer, is a retired school teacher of 32 years. He also holds the position of City Recreation Director for the City of Charlevoix which he has held since 1975. Ike graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1963 and Spring Arbor University in 1968. He is also involved with the summer Venetian Festival and the Winter Sno-Challenge. He has always worked with children and saw BASES as a great way to continue his work. He and his wife, Joyce, live in Charlevoix and have two adult children.

Bruce Herbert, Board Member, has his own plastics brokerage business, following a career with E.I. DuPont. He is a mediator with Northern Community Mediation, a Big Brother, delivers meals for the Senior Center and is active with the First Congregational Church. He and wife Joyce live in Charlevoix and have five grown children.

Ellen Breining, Board Member, is a resident of Charlevoix for the past 12 years, a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Petoskey, has been in the handbell choir for 10 years and volunteers for the American Red Cross since 1995 as the coordinator of the Charlevoix community blood drives.

Bob Grove, Board Member, is the owner of Nu-Core Inc. with manufacturing locations in Charlevoix and a downstate location, a graduate of Michigan Tech University, has 3 children, is a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Boyne City, a full-time resident of Boyne City for the past 8 years, visitor to the Charlevoix area for 35 years with interests in mountain biking, sailing, skiing and running.

Rick Randall, Board Member, is a Chiropractor in Charlevoix who recently relocated from Flint and Genesee County, he is a current member and past president of the Charlevoix Rotary Club, a member of the Charlevoix LIons Club, married with no children and enjoys skiing, boating, and summer activities.

Mary Lee Campbell, Board Member, is a Speech and Language Pathologist with Charlevoix- Emmet Intermediate School District, serving the Harbor Springs Schools. She previously served on the Charlevoix School Board, and Charlevoix Schools Enrichment Foundation, and has been active in the Michigan Speech and Hearing Association. Currently she is president of the Foster Care Review Board, which services 9 Northern Michigan counties. She and her husband John have six grown children and live in Charlevoix.
